Artist Statement
Working predominantly with print and photography my art explores concepts relating to journey.
A fondness for seeking cultural differences and a keen interest in chasing the unfamiliar has kept my curiosity thriving as I continue to embark on diverse journeys around the globe.
Journeys can offer a state of seclusion and isolation that is emotionally stimulating. It is a psychological pleasure to temporarily be and feel entirely alone, disregarding the external physical world.
My work conveys an emotive record of the thoughts and feelings I experience in particular locations.
Ideas of solitude, alienation and anonymity are explored through my practice. I have always liked the concept of being invisible, vanishing when noticed and losing myself both physically and mentally in the unknown.
Travelling alone eliminates distraction and offers the opportunity to free myself, continually interchanging between my interior world and exterior reality. Whilst physically being in one place my mind wanders elsewhere, through dreams, memories, thoughts and feelings.
